A MESSAGE FROM CHIEF WANTO
CyBeR-bUlLyInG [cyber-bullying]

In today's age of computers; cell phones with cameras; and IM devices, it's no wonder that our Police Department has experienced a marked increase in calls relating to Cyber-bullying.
If you are a parent of a teenager, then chances are you are aware of how much time they spend on the devices listed above; they might spend hours chatting, downloading music, or instant messaging.  Along with those opportunities may come the chance of your child becoming either an instigator or the victim of cyber-bullying.
Online bullying occurs when kids use these devices to send text or images that are intended to hurt, threaten or embarrass another person. Sometimes it might be an innocent thing, posting party or compromising pictures on the internet not realizing the serious consequences that come with such an activity.  Having a change to witness first hand the text and/or photos, I can see how it would affect the teen and their parents.
What can be done?  Parents need to become more aware of their teens activities and how they might be participating in sites such as YouTube, MySpace, FaceBook, and the use of their phone if it contains a camera.  Make your teenager aware that they should share with you any bullying activity directed towards them. You should save the threatening or harassing messages and report them to our department at 724-266-6142.

Reporting Activity
Often times residents will see criminal activity and don't report it thinking it's not important or they don't want to get involved.  We rely upon our residents to report such activity in order for us to take appropriate action.  Please don't feel that you are pestering or complaining when it comes to reporting suspicious activity.  We are always open to our residents concerns.

About Our Police Department
The Leet Township Police Department consists of five full time Officers and two part time Officers.  The Department is one of the oldest in existence, longevity, and experience in the Quaker Valley area.  Having over 150 combined years of Police service, the Department is able to provide to the community a knowledgeable and trained Department that is fully aware of the communities needs.  Having a Police Department within a smaller community affords Officers the opportunity to provide a more personal approach to policing.  This interaction is beneficial to both the Department and the residents.
